WEBINAR | Writing the Senses: Transform Your Prose with Vivid Descriptions

September 9 @ 3:00 pm 4:30 pm EDT

For Fiction, Nonfiction, Memoir, and Poetry
Included in the Season Pass

Lush, descriptive writing is like magic. Sensory moments draw readers in to let them experience another life entirely. In this 90-minute session, award-winning author and writing coach April Dávila guides writers through a series of meditations, followed by writing exercises designed to help you move past tired clichés and find the details that are genuinely, uniquely yours.

Often, exploring sensory details surprises us, allowing us to stop focusing on “perfect” prose and lean into our own, and our characters’, specific experience. Write a handful of descriptive lines you’ll actually want to use—and confidence in how to choose those lines carefully to avoid verbosity in your finished work.

Writers at all skill levels are welcome. Bring a work-in-progress or a blank page, and leave with fresh material and new ways of expressing your ideas.

In this webinar, you will:
  • SHARPEN your ability to capture specific, vivid details that pull readers into your world
  • MOVE through guided meditations on sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste
  • SILENCE your inner critic and get words on the page without second-guessing every line
  • GENERATE new material you can pull directly into your stories, essays, or poems
  • GAIN a fresh approach to descriptive writing
This webinar is ideal for beginning and intermediate writers…
  • whose prose feels flat or overly visual, relying too heavily on sight and missing the other four senses
  • who find themselves reaching for the same tired phrases and want to develop a more original, specific voice
  • working on any project (fiction, memoir, poetry, or essay) who want fresh material and new ways into their writing
  • who tend to rush past description and want to slow down and pay closer attention to the world of their story
